Free love and the flower children

Hippies, aka flower children, came to life in the mid-60’s . . . long hair for females and males alike . . . their lifestyle was one of not having a care in the world, it was all about “Peace, Love and Happiness” . . .

“Free Love” was a part of the hippie culture . . . meaning loving all people as sisters and brothers . . . but didn’t this culture usher in the sexual revolution?

When I think of hippies and flower children, Cheech and Chong come to mind . . . they depict hippies in the truest sense of the word and have been immortalized as such in a string of movies from back in the day.

It was a time between the eras of “Leave It To Beaver” where mom and dad could not be depicted on television as sleeping in one bed . . . they always had twin beds . . . to present day era of “Sex and the City” where they stopped putting knotches on the bedpost because they ran out of room. What we see on television has gone way past the extreme opposite to sometimes vulgar.

We’ve gone from a time in the 60’s where being a virgin was something to be proud of . . . to present day where it is something to be rid of like a disease.

Did the sexual revolution start on that street called Haight Street in San Francisco where they wore flowers in their hair?

In my opinion, it started there and gathered moss . . . like a rolling stone . . . what do you think?

The zany twosome are back for some smoke-enhanced misadventures in this riotous comedy. This time, Cheech must deal with an angry neighbor and losing his job, all while trying to score with a sexy young lady. Meanwhile, Chong meets Cheech’s cousin, Red (Cheech Marin in a dual role), and the two new buds have a wild time buzzing around Hollyweird in a bad Ferrari. Along the way, the dynamic duo find time for some mishaps at a movie set, the welfare office, a hotel, a brothel, a music store, a rich girl’s house, a comedy club, the ultimate weed field and a UFO - all before the second reel! It’s an outrageous comedy that you and your friends will be toking about for a long time to come.

Hippies were great for this country. If you look at the way they believed, it was really the best thing for humanity.

People in the US look at sex as dirty. Marriage is a religion thing. There are some animals that have a mate for life as there are others that do not. Being free to love everyone is a great thing.

Hippies to me were not judgmental, as modern hippies are not as well. I myself could have been classified as a hippie a few years ago. I feel now that I’m a sell out to corporate America. I work to survive a lifestyle that really doesn’t matter to me. If I don’t keep the life style though, I’m judged by others in a negative way.

Did hippies open the door for ‘Sex in the City’? Maybe, but they didn’t pave the road and the people in the US didn’t have to drive down it either. As long as people thing that sex is a perverse nature of man, then we will have the opinion of such things like ‘Sex in the City’ and not just a thought that it could be someones true life story.

Thanks for visiting and commenting :)

I am a self-proclaimed flower child . . . my core philosophy of life has always been “peace, love and happiness” . . . I just question a good thing gone too far to the other extreme as far as values, morality and respect.
